Your father and I are eagerly awaiting your arrival. Last night, I did my nightly pregnant ritual before bed which consists of taking prenatal vitamins, a quick facial wash, a coconut oil belly rub and a slow and steady waddle to the bed. I have to ensure my insane amount of pillows are placed just right before I attempt a ninja like maneuver into bed. Your father usually just stares at me and waits to see if I need to use a part of his body for support.
Last night, I didn’t focus on my stretch marks, achy hips or my huge bump but instead, I had a flashback to June when your father and I found out you existed. We knew you were a gift from God, chosen just for us.
The first and second trimesters were hard for me because I worried that I would lose you the way I lost your sister. I prayed for your well-being, and I thanked God for every week we made it through. I remember the day we saw you on the ultrasound; you had a heartbeat that was strong and clear. My eyes filled with tears and my heart felt full again. You reminded me how special it is to have the opportunity to be a mom. When I began to speak, and you turned your head toward the monitor and threw up your fist, I knew you were going to be alright. You, M. Emerson Farley, will impact the world. The best of Erik and Michelle lives in you. You are brilliant. You are our legacy.
Our Vow to You
We will ensure that you have a childhood full of laughs, learning, love and fun. We promise you bedtime stories and goodnight kisses. We promise you a balance of carefree adventures and educational and behavioral expectations. (Your mom and dad don’t play when it comes to foolishness). We will be your biggest supporters (I’m the loud parent lol, you’ll get used to it) and your guide as you navigate through life. M. Emerson, we promise to love you unconditionally as only parents can. You will be brought up to believe in yourself. You will know that your dreams are without limits. You will have confidence and pride in your abilities without feeling the need to tear down others. You will know the value of sharing and giving.
Our commitment to God is to guide you in the best way possible. Baby boy your life has been signed with the penmanship of God. We will never try to dim your light or mold you into an image of who we think you should be. We will encourage your passions. We will teach you to honor your word and commitments and show you the importance of loving and respecting others. There will also be moments when we will have to let you experience setbacks on your own. The world we live in is a beautiful, ugly, hateful, loving crazy and calm place. You will have to learn how to live in it. You will have to fight for what you believe in my son and be confident in your decisions. Your dad and I will have honest conversations with you, and we won’t sugarcoat situations or the reasons that they happen. We will show you how to function in a world that may see you differently and treat you accordingly. From childhood to adulthood, you will never doubt how much you mean to us. You are our gift from God, and we will cherish you forever.
In love,
Mommy & Daddy
